Conservation & Restoration

We preserve historical elements by restoring the original decorative schemes back to their former glory. Using traditional techniques and handpicked materials. Our aim is to restore and reinstate the originality, and historical value of the artwork or decoration, by achieving the highest level of authenticity and replication. This means preserving the original materials, colours, and designs as much as possible in order to match or recreate, their appearance and function while maintaining their historical significance.

This includes:
• Carrying out assessment surveys and providing reports and method statements.
• Mapping and tracing the artwork or decoration.
• Identifying areas of failure such as flaking paint, craquelure, canvas tears, or delamination, staining, efflorescence or water damage.
• Identifying colour schemes, and then precisely matching and hand mixing colours.
• Undertaking intricate and delicate brushwork, including gilding.
• All materials must be compatible with the original artwork or decoration.
