About Decorative Effects

Decorative Effects – Artisans of bespoke finishes.

Sarah is the founder and sole proprietor of Decorative Effects.

With a rich background in Art and Design, Sarah spent her early years working for the Royal Opera House, The English National Opera and The National Theatre as a freelance scenic artist. Her extensive knowledge of period ornamentation encapsulates techniques such as murals, trompe l’oeil, faux wood graining and faux marbling which are now used in many of our projects today.

Sarah has spent the last seventeen years, working as a freelance decorative artist, and in that time, she has met and brought together, a well-orchestrated team of highly skilled and creative, decorative artists, gilders and trade experts.

Between us we create, develop and restore a myriad of historical, to traditional and contemporary bespoke finishes, using innovation to reinvent, a sense of luxury, to projects large and small.

Our work ranges from the restoration or refreshment of existing decoration, through to producing a dazzling new series of effects that decorate all forms of architectural surfaces. Using fine decoration, oil and water gilding, faux wood graining, faux marbling, murals and trompe l’oeil.

We have created bespoke finishes for prestigious residential properties and exclusive commercial spaces, normally as part of a major renovation, refurbishment or restoration project.

Often we are subcontracted by leading interior designers, architects, construction companies or specialist suppliers.

However, we are equally delighted to work directly for private clients.

Testimonial by Carole Bamford – Daylesford Gloucestershire
“I would just like to thank you for the quite excellent work you recently carried out at Daylesford. That striking paint effect has a particular resonance and value for me, so it is an absolute delight to see the walls having been restored so perfectly”.

Testimonial by James Stourton, former chairman, Sotheby’s UK.
“The restoration of the painted grisailles work on the staircase at Boconnoc in Cornwall was a major undertaking. I am full of admiration for the way it has been undertaken, with sensitivity and skill. It has been a triumph and was one of the main reasons that the house was awarded the Historic Houses Association/Sotheby’s Restoration of the year awarded in 2012”.
